Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) are many and varied. When a workplace recognises that its workers are critical to the success of the business, they want to support its staff in a friendly, productive environment that enables the organisation to achieve its objectives.
The aim of an EAP is to provide staff access to an early intervention program. Staff may be seeking assistance for personal problems that may be impacting their work performance, or staff may be directed to seek assistance for issues that may be affecting work performance.

Employee Assistance programs usually provide at the employer’s cost between three to six sessions. Some programs also provide assistance for family members depending on the employer’s policies in the areas of health and safety. Psychologists and therapists make recommendations in regard to further assistance that employees may need.
Organisations that adopt EAPs in their policy guidelines also demonstrate compliance with occupational health and safety guidelines/legislation.
