employee Assistance Programs

Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) are many and varied. When a workplace recognises that its workers are critical to the success of the business, they want to support its staff in a friendly, productive environment that enables the organisation to achieve its objectives.

The aim of an EAP is to provide staff access to an early intervention program. Staff may be seeking assistance for personal problems that may be impacting their work performance, or staff may be directed to seek assistance for issues that may be affecting work performance.

Workplace support employee assistance programs are personalised and are adapted according to the culture of the workplace of our clients. An EAP program that is cost-effective and easily accessed, confidential, accountable, professional and has flexibility so that together we assist you to meet the need for “duty of care” to employers and employees.

Workplace well-being is the responsibility of every person working in the workplace, and through the person-to-person/face-to-face contact that we are trained to provide, a relationship of trust creates immediate accessibility for encouragement, concern sharing, counselling and accountability which is unique to our employee assistance program.

The benefits in cost savings can include – time management, stress management, boundary keeping and good communication. Short focussed intervention at the immediate time results in:

  • Increased engagement
  • Higher productivity
  • Reduced absenteeism
  • Improved production
  • Healthier communication
  • Workplace wellness
  • Reduced staff turnover

Employee Assistance programs
usually provide at the employer’s cost between three to six sessions. Some programs also provide assistance for family members depending on the employer’s policies in the areas of health and safety. Psychologists and therapists make recommendations in regard to further assistance that employees may need.

Organisations that adopt EAPs in their policy guidelines also demonstrate compliance with occupational health and safety guidelines/legislation.

Alliance Psychology and Trauma Consultants plans and delivers services in a coordinated way to a national community of organisations. A central referral and resource centre has been established to coordinate all services and thus establishing a framework for the evaluation of all services delivered.
